Recognition of our Micro Credential in EU
The European Union (EU) Council adopted a Recommendation on a European approach to micro-credentials for lifelong learning and employability on 16 June 2022. The Recommendation aims to promote the creation, implementation, and recognition of micro-credentials across institutions, industries, and national borders. Micro-credentials validate the learning outcomes of the short courses and make them easily recognized all over the EU and could be transferred credits into the academic degrees.
All Swiss Micro Credentials from Université Libérale de Paris adhere to the Recommendations on a European approach to micro-credentials for lifelong learning and employability and are credit-bearing. This ensures our Micro Credentials are more easily recognized across Europe.
‘Micro-credential’ means the record of the learning outcomes that a learner has acquired following a small volume of learning. These learning outcomes will have been assessed against transparent and clearly defined criteria. Learning experiences leading to micro- credentials are designed to provide the learner with specific knowledge, skills and competences that respond to societal, personal, cultural or labour market needs.
Micro-credentials are owned by the learner, can be shared and are portable. They may be stand–alone or combined into larger credentials. They are underpinned by quality assurance following agreed standards in the relevant sector or area of activity
In short, micro-credentials are short courses that you can earn an official credit for.
(Ref. 5a – Definitions – Council Recommendation on a European approach to micro-credentials for lifelong learning and employability)
Our France Micro-Credential is accredited by independent accreditation bodies of both Université Libérale de Paris and our university partners.
Additionally, our France Micro-Credential programs fully meet the EU’s micro-credential requirements, including:
- Annex IV of the European Qualifications Framework (EQF) Recommendation,
- The Standards and Guidelines for Quality Assurance in the European Higher Education Area (ESG),
- The European Quality Assurance Reference Framework (EQAVET) for vocational education and training,
- ISO 21001 – Management systems for Higher Education Institutions.
Quality:
Our France Micro-Credential is part of both internal and external quality assurance processes. The quality of our short courses matches that of our accredited academic programs.
Our internal quality assurance covers the following elements:
- The overall quality of the micro-credential itself, based on the standards listed below.
- The quality of the course, when applicable, leading to the micro-credential.
- Learners’ feedback on the learning experience leading to the micro-credential.
- Peer feedback, including input from other providers and stakeholders, on the learning experience leading to the micro-credential.
Transparency:
Our France Micro-Credentials are measurable (ECTS & UK credits), comparable, and easy to understand (qualification level), with clear details on learning outcomes, workload, content, level, and the learning offer, as relevant.
Relevance:
Our France Micro-Credential programs are part of academic degree programs and are continually updated with current professional knowledge.
Valid Assessment:
All our France Micro-Credentials have transparent assessment criteria, which are clearly outlined and guided in the short course syllabus.
Learning Pathways:
Our France Micro-Credentials provide clear learning pathways. Read more HERE.
Recognition:
Our France Micro-Credentials are designed for maximum recognition in both the labor market and universities.
Portability:
Our short courses are certified, owned by the learners, and can be stored in our UMS (University Management Systems) for easy sharing.
Learner-Centered:
Our France Micro-Credentials are designed to meet the needs of the target learner group.
As European standard elements for describing micro-credentials are recommended to support implementation, we apply these elements to describe your micro-credential:
- Identification of the learner
- Title of the micro-credential
- Country(ies)/Region(s) of the issuer
- Awarding body(ies)
- Date of issuing
- Learning outcomes
- Notional workload required to achieve the learning outcomes (measured in ECTS credits)
- Level of the learning experience (aligned with EQF, RQF)
- Type of assessment
- Form of participation in the learning activity
- Type of quality assurance underpinning the micro-credential
- Prerequisites needed to enroll in the learning activity
- Supervision and identity verification during assessment, whether unsupervised, supervised without verification, supervised online, or onsite with identity verification
- Grade achieved
- Integration/stackability options (whether it is a stand-alone, independent micro-credential or integrated/stackable towards another credential)
Using these European standard elements to describe micro-credentials does not guarantee official validation or recognition but serves as a key enabler for achieving it.
Automatic Transfer:
Our certified micro-credentials allow the transfer of all credits and tuition fees when enrolling in the academic programs of Université Libérale de Paris and our university partners.
All France Micro-Credential certifications display the corresponding level, which can be transferred to the programs of our university partners as follows:
- France Micro-Credential Level 4 and 5 short courses can transfer credits to diploma programs.
- Université Libérale de Paris Bachelor Awards can transfer credits to bachelor’s programs.
- Université Libérale de Paris Master Awards can transfer credits to master’s programs.
