Student Policy
and Regulations
The main purpose of the ‘Student Policies & Regulations’ is to prepare students for their chosen certified program and to instill confidence in each incoming student so they can maximize their experience at Université Libérale de Paris. Importantly, the handbook outlines the values and standards we uphold, which we expect you to honor in your conduct as a student at Université Libérale de Paris.
The Université Libérale de Paris disciplinary procedures aim to promote values such as trust, respect, honesty, and tolerance. Each student is given the opportunity to make a positive contribution to the university community and is held responsible for their actions and behaviors. It is therefore not only required but also expected that each student will act in a manner that fosters a positive environment for learning and development.
Université Libérale de Paris operates a strict attendance policy to ensure engagement with the established learning outcomes. A responsible attendance record is required from students. Lecturers and other authorized staff members will take attendance at the start of every lecture, tutorial, workshop, excursion, or any other related activities where students’ presence is required (collectively referred to as “workshop”). Attendance contributes 10% to the final grade in each module.
The absence procedure at Université Libérale de Paris does not typically consider the nature of absences (personal matters, health issues, interviews, etc.). Any deviations from this policy due to special or unusual circumstances (e.g., chronic illness) must be approved by the Academic Director or, in cases where expulsion is being considered, during a Disciplinary Board Meeting.
Students who are not present on time, are not properly groomed, or are inadequately prepared for class will be marked absent for the relevant hour(s). The university does not count or excuse absences due to illness, interviews, family circumstances, or any other matters that prevent attendance at workshops. Students are allocated a threshold of acceptable absences and are expected to take full ownership of their studies by managing their time, schedules, meetings, interviews, events, and personal matters accordingly. Absences exceeding the threshold will result in students being deemed to have not satisfied the learning outcomes of the module, regardless of the circumstances of those absences.
Students may be absent for a maximum of 30% of the overall program. Once a student exceeds 30% absence in a module, they will be automatically deregistered and withdrawn from that module. Consequently, students are not permitted to join the class or submit any assessments, and grades earned thus far will be voided. The transcript will reflect a “W” (withdrawal) for the applicable module. To pass the module after withdrawal and complete the semester, students must retake the module as if they had failed it. Self-study or online retake sessions are not offered to students who have been withdrawn from a module.
A warning system and policy of withdrawal will be applied as follows:
- Once a student reaches 20% absence in the program, they will receive a written warning known as the First Warning Letter.
- If the student reaches 25% absence in the program, they will receive a Final Warning. The student must sign the final warning letter and will receive a copy. The Academic Office will then send a scanned copy of the warning letter to the student’s Regional Representative.
- At this stage, the student will also be invited to a formal meeting with the Academic Director to discuss their intentions regarding the continuation of their studies.
This policy is applied equally to all students across all modules, including theoretical courses, supporting workshops, and all other mandatory activities.
The student should submit the absence form to Université Libérale de Paris at least 24 hours prior to the start of class. The student must send the absence application form to support@paris-u.fr via email.
Malpractice in the academic world refers to any action, whether it was done intentionally or not, that has the potential to compromise the honesty that is necessary for study and research. This includes the following:
- Plagiarism
- Collusion
- Fabrication or falsification of results,
- Anything else that could result in unearned or undeserved credit for those committing it.
Academic dishonesty may occur either on purpose, as in the case of cheating, or accidentally, as in the case of careless work. The SIMI Swiss will take a severe approach toward any and all instances of academic misconduct, regardless of whether or not the misconduct was intentional.
Depending on the specifics of the misconduct and the degree of its seriousness, the following punishments might be given:
- A written warning
- Loss of credit in the unit concerned
- Loss of credit in all units in the qualification concerned
- Disqualification from the qualification concerned
- Learner is barred from registering for qualifications for a set period of time
- A combination of two or more of the above
- Other actions
Upon advise from SIMI Swiss’s Council, it may be necessary to notify the police if the malpractice looks to constitute a criminal offense.
Plagiarism Policy of Université Libérale de Paris
Plagiarism is one of the most serious academic offenses. Like all other institutions, Université Libérale de Paris does not accept plagiarism. This document will help students understand the anti-plagiarism regulations at Université Libérale de Paris.
Definition of Plagiarism
Plagiarism is presenting the work or ideas of another as one’s own, with or without their permission, or integrating it into one’s own work without proper credit. Failure to cite all sources correctly may be seen as intentional and, therefore, considered plagiarism by an evaluator.
Regulations on Acceptable Percentage of Similarity
Université Libérale de Paris allows a similarity score of 25%. The university utilizes various plagiarism detection technologies to identify potential issues. Any submitted assignment with a similarity rate over 25% will be reviewed by additional evaluators.
Assignments with a similarity score exceeding 25% are not automatically deemed violations of the anti-plagiarism policy due to differences between the applied program and the verification period using the same software. As mentioned earlier, the university will double-check identical content above 25% to maintain academic integrity.
Université Libérale de Paris takes pride in its academic credibility and rigor. Students must adhere to formal, internationally accepted citation standards. If students use any material that requires citation, they must ensure it is correctly referenced in the text and the reference section, using Harvard or another recognized referencing style.
Failure to properly cite all sources may be perceived as intentional and consequently deemed plagiarism by an evaluator. Plagiarism is a serious academic violation that occurs when a student presents work completed by another as their own. A student may be considered guilty of plagiarism if any paper submitted for individual evaluation contains unacknowledged work from another individual or individuals. If a student intentionally presents content as their own to deceive examiners, this is a grave offense.
All sources must be cited, and any quotes from other authors’ works must be clearly marked as such. If a student’s work includes verbatim (or near-verbatim) quotations from other writers (including other students’ past or present work) without proper acknowledgment, the student has committed plagiarism, regardless of the intent to deceive. This restriction also applies to submitting one’s own work as if it were that of another student.
If plagiarism is detected, students will receive a grade of 0 along with a warning letter and may face disciplinary action. Should the academic committee confirm an instance of plagiarism, a score of 0 will be assigned to the evaluation. If the module is ultimately failed, the student will be eligible for a referral according to the standard referral process. Students will need to repeat the full module if they receive an F.
Final assignments are precisely what their name suggests: distinct, original pieces of work. Copying another person’s work in whole or in part is prohibited.
Please leave nothing to chance. Université Libérale de Paris has strict rules about plagiarism and uses specialized electronic monitoring tools to determine whether a piece of work is plagiarized.
PLEASE NOTE THAT PLAGIARISM WILL NOT BE TOLERATED (copying the work of other authors without attribution or credit). Plagiarism is akin to test cheating since it involves “stealing” others’ answers, ideas, or written content and passing them off as one’s own. Students caught engaging in these forms of cheating will receive a failing grade and will be reported to the university dean. Two instances of cheating or plagiarism will result in suspension from the university.
For information on what plagiarism is and how to avoid it, please refer to pages 40 and 41 in the book: TURABIAN, Kate L., A Manual for Writers of Research Papers, Theses, and Dissertations, Chicago Style for Students and Researchers, 7th Edition, The University of Chicago Press, 2007.
In general, (1) students shall have access to their educational records, and (2) educational institutions shall not disclose such documents without the student’s consent. Before Université Libérale de Paris can share information about a student with prospective employers, government agencies, credit bureaus, etc., the student’s written consent is required. Students and alumni seeking employment, credit, or similar opportunities can expedite the application process by providing the university with written authorization to release their records, specifying which records should be released and to whom. For more information on any exceptions to the regulations governing the release of student records, please contact the Administrative Office.
During the duration of a student’s studies, Université Libérale de Paris reserves the right to utilize or distribute newsworthy material and/or films to local media and in various publications or video productions. Additionally, Université Libérale de Paris manages websites, brochures, pamphlets, and social marketing channels that include authentic student photographs.
According to Swiss law: 22 KUG/Art. 28 Para. 1 ZGB/Art. 35 aURG/Art. 12 Para. 1 DSG/Art. 3 lit. a DSG/Art. 12 Para. 2 lit. b DSG/Art. 27 ZGB and WIPO (World Intellectual Property Organization), we require your express permission to use your photos.
Please carefully read the following disclaimer; by signing, you are consenting to the usage of photographs.
“By signing the student handbook, I affirm and acknowledge that photos of me, whether as an individual or as part of a group, may be published globally in any online or offline medium. I understand that Université Libérale de Paris cannot control or regulate the use of these photographs by third parties and that my images may be used in formats or designs different from the original.
My permission to use my photographs is effective as of the day I sign this contract. I accept that if this consent is not rescinded, my photos will remain in all Université Libérale de Paris media after my affiliation has ended but will be replaced in any new publications as they are generated.
It is impossible to guarantee the removal or cancellation of all published photographs, as search engines may index them or third parties may have duplicated them. A later request from me regarding the use of a published group photograph does not necessitate the image’s removal.
My permission to use my photograph is optional. I understand that the use of my image will not result in any financial benefit to me, and I consent to the use of my image(s) as mentioned above at no cost. My consent may be revoked at any time in accordance with Article 27 of the French Data Protection Act. A withdrawal of my consent will not result in any disadvantage to me.”
In its rules, methods, and procedures, Université Libérale de Paris does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, gender, age, or disability. Students, instructors, and staff are encouraged to promptly notify Université Libérale de Paris or its local partner/representative if they believe they have experienced discrimination by a member of the university’s personnel or other students. No form of discrimination will be tolerated.
Any form of harassment is unacceptable at Université Libérale de Paris; it contradicts the commitment to excellence that defines the institution’s operations. Université Libérale de Paris is dedicated to fostering a harassment-free environment in which everyone can work, learn, and live. Therefore, harassment may result in consequences as severe as termination of employment or student status.
Harassment is defined as any verbal or physical conduct, on or off campus, that unreasonably interferes with the educational or work performance of an individual or group at Université Libérale de Paris, or that creates an intimidating, hostile, or offensive educational, work, or living environment. Certain forms of harassment are prohibited by civil laws as well as Université Libérale de Paris’s conflict of interest and nondiscrimination policies.
Sexual harassment can take many forms, including sexual assault and solicitations for sexual favors that influence educational or job decisions. It can also encompass unwelcome physical contact, solicitations for sexual favors, visual displays of demeaning sexual imagery, sexually suggestive behavior, and offensive sexual comments.
The university is committed under this policy to preventing harassment and associated retaliatory behavior. All supervisors at Université Libérale de Paris have a responsibility to act against harassment within their areas of supervision.
Any member of the Université Libérale de Paris community who feels harassed is encouraged to seek assistance and resolution for their complaint. The France Micro-Credential program offers various avenues for individuals who feel harassed, allowing each person to choose the most appropriate path for their particular situation. The university’s procedures are designed to protect the rights of both the complainant and the respondent, ensure privacy, and prevent any supervisory retaliation.
Université Libérale de Paris is both philosophically and legally committed to providing equitable access to all programs for students with verified disabilities. The Office of Disability Assistance facilitates the provision of reasonable and necessary accommodations and services for individual students with documented disabilities. After a student voluntarily registers with the Office of Disability Services by completing a disability identification form and presenting evidence of a disability, the university will assess the appropriate accommodations.
Each semester, students with disabilities who require academic accommodations or other disability-related support services must inform the Office of Disability Services of their needs and submit request forms in a timely manner. Accommodations may include additional time for timed tests, a private area for testing, the use of assistive technology, extra time for written tasks, and, in extreme cases, course substitutes or a modified course program, all of which must be approved by both the Office of Disability Services and the Administrative Board. The university will not provide such support services if doing so would impose an unreasonable burden.
Students with disabilities, like all other students, should choose courses that consider their unique strengths and limitations and communicate any challenges to their academic advisors.
The university is not responsible for, nor will it provide, personal care assistance, personal purchases, personal adaptive equipment, formal educational assessments, or clinical disability evaluations, as well as services or educational materials used by all students (such as pens, paper, personal computers, software, or computer supplies). These responsibilities fall on the students.
Disputes or complaints regarding disability accommodations should be discussed with the Director of Disability Services; if not resolved, they can be escalated to the Chancellor through a formal procedure.
